The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence to gather feedback on a forthcoming strategy aimed at strengthening research and innovation for oceans and waters. This initiative will build on existing EU programmes, including the Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030, and aims to improve how knowledge, data and solutions are developed and used across Europe.
The strategy will focus on:
Improving governance of research and innovation, by reducing fragmentation and strengthening coordination, including across research infrastructures;
Taking a source-to-sea approach, addressing pollution and resource management from inland waters to marine ecosystems;
Supporting investment and financing, to further develop and deploy innovative solutions and technologies.
By contributing to this consultation, Black Sea stakeholders can help ensure that regional priorities and challenges are reflected in future EU actions.
Who should contribute?
The Commission encourages input from a wide range of stakeholders, including:
Research organisations and academia
Public authorities and policymakers
Industry and blue economy sectors
NGOs, civil society and environmental organisations
Innovation and technology experts
