The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence to gather input on a new strategy focused on strengthening research and innovation (R&I) for water resilience. The initiative aims to address key knowledge and innovation gaps and support the transition towards more sustainable and resilient water systems across Europe. This strategy will support a more coordinated approach to water research and innovation, helping to develop and scale up solutions that are needed to respond to these challenges.
The strategy will focus on:
Improving funding and scaling up solutions, by channelling investment into water-related research and innovation;
Boosting competitiveness and sustainability, by supporting technological advancements in key sectors;
Addressing pollution through a source-to-sea approach, linking inland waters with marine ecosystems;
Reducing fragmentation, by strengthening coordination across the European water R&I landscape.
