The Common Maritime Agenda (CMA) for the Black Sea is an initiative fostering regional cooperation across key blue economy sectors. To support its implementation, the CMA Steering Group brings together Technical Groups of national experts - dynamic platforms for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
These groups unite stakeholders from across the region to share expertise, develop project ideas, promote best practices, and drive forward concrete CMA actions. Each Technical Group is led by expert coordinators and supported by the Black Sea Assistance Mechanism.
Why Aquaculture?
Aquaculture is a strategic and fast-evolving sector in the Black Sea, with strong potential to boost a sustainable blue economy. From freshwater to marine systems, the sector offers significant opportunities for innovation, investment, and environmental sustainability.
Recognising this, the CMA places aquaculture at the heart of its agenda under:
Goal I – Priority 3: Supporting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture
This includes actions such as:
Research and pilot projects
Workshops and knowledge-sharing events
Innovative technologies and digital solutions
Capacity building and training initiatives
Established in July 2023, the Technical Group on Sustainable Aquaculture (SustAqua TG) plays a central role in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the sector.
Now, in 2026, the Black Sea Assistance Mechanism is expanding the group and invites new experts to join this growing network, enhancing its reach, expertise, and impact.
OBJECTIVES of the SustAqua Technical Group:
As a member, you will contribute to:
Advancing knowledge on sustainable aquaculture, identifying key gaps and priorities
Promoting best practices and fostering partnerships across industry, research, public authorities, and civil society
Supporting policymaking by providing technical insights to national and regional stakeholders
Developing project pipelines, turning ideas into funding-ready proposals aligned with EU and international opportunities
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for motivated professionals with proven expertise in:
Industry: companies active in aquaculture or fisheries (small- or large-scale), including associations and networks.
Academia and research: aquaculture and fisheries scientists, biologists, environmental and marine ecosystem experts.
Other sectors: experts in emerging technologies for aquaculture, NGOs, innovation and sustainability specialists.
Expected activities:
As a member of the Technical Group, you will:
Participate in 3–4 meetings per year (at least one may be in person)
Contribute to project development and funding proposals
Share and promote innovative practices and sustainable solutions across the region
A detailed work plan and timeline will be co-developed during the first meeting with new members.
