Practical information

Event Date

Description

We are pleased to share the workshop on how the Copernicus Marine Service supports Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), organised by Mercator Ocean International, implementer of the Copernicus Marine Service. This event, will showcase the value of free, reliable, and science-based ocean data in addressing the complex challenges of managing our marine spaces, from shipping and fisheries to renewable energy and marine conservation, especially in the face of climate change.

Why Attend?

The workshop will explore how key ocean indicators, such as multi-decadal trends in sea water temperature, sea level rise, ocean acidification, marine heatwaves, and biogeochemical changes, can inform evidence-based decision-making in MSP. Aligned with the European Maritime Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD), the event will foster dialogue on how to enhance coordination, governance, and the operational use of Copernicus Marine data.

What to Expect:

  • Morning Session: Tailored for policymakers and national authorities, this session will provide an overview of the Copernicus Marine Service’s role in MSP, discuss the MSP landscape and the EU Ocean Pact, and feature a roundtable exchange on ocean observation coordination.
  • Afternoon Session: Designed for technical users and practitioners, this session will delve into practical use cases of Copernicus Marine data, thematic demonstrations, and a roundtable on strengthening alignment among MSP actors.
