The European Maritime Day (EMD) 2026 will be held on 21–22 May 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus, as an in-person event, with plenary sessions live-streamed to ensure broad accessibility.
European Maritime Day is the annual flagship event that brings together Europe’s maritime community to exchange views, build partnerships, and shape joint action on maritime affairs and the sustainable blue economy. It highlights the diversity of maritime sectors and activities across Europe, raising awareness among citizens of the essential role seas and oceans play in everyday life.
EMD 2026 will offer a dynamic and interactive programme, featuring plenary sessions, thematic discussions, stakeholder workshops, an exhibition area, and extensive networking opportunities. The event provides a platform where ocean leaders, policymakers, businesses, researchers, civil society, and maritime professionals can take stock of current developments and discuss future pathways for Europe’s blue economy and marine environment.
The event is organised by the European Commission, the Shipping Deputy Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus, and the Municipality of Limassol.

Featured Workshop: Sea Basin Strategies as a Tool for Reinforced Maritime Regional Cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean
Among the workshops included in the 2026 programme is “Sea Basin Strategies as a tool for reinforced maritime regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
Building on the European Ocean Pact, the workshop responds to the growing need to support maritime regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean as part of the EU’s broader sea basin cooperation framework. It will foster discussions on the challenges and opportunities linked to the potential development of a dedicated Sea Basin Strategy for the region.
The session will explore:
- How regional cooperation could address shared challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean,
- The added value of a structured sea basin approach, and
- Lessons from existing strategies in the Atlantic, Western Mediterranean, Black Sea, and the more recent North Sea (GNSBI).
Understanding the region’s current needs and the potential role of sea basin cooperation will be at the centre of the discussions.
