The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals under Horizon Europe's Mission "Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030", supporting adaptive co-management of marine and freshwater ecosystems with fishers at the centre.
Why This Matters
Fisheries communities are both dependent on and stewards of healthy aquatic ecosystems. Across the Black Sea, small-scale and coastal fisheries face mounting pressures from environmental degradation, overfishing and the impacts of conflict. This call places fishers as active agents of change, supporting co-management models that reconcile livelihoods with long-term ecosystem sustainability.
Who Should Apply?
Consortia involving fishing communities, fisheries organisations, research institutions, public authorities and NGOs are invited to apply. Proposals must demonstrate active engagement and empowerment of fishers as co-designers of management approaches.
