Description

The Danube Region represents a vital European transport and economic corridor, connecting Central and Eastern Europe to the Black Sea and beyond. On 14 July 2026, the event “Danube and the Black Sea: Synergies for Regional Development and Connectivity” will take place in Ruse, bringing ringing together key stakeholders to explore how stronger cooperation and smarter use of waterborne transport can unlock the full potential of this strategic axis for sustainable, innovative and competitive development.

The event will bring together representatives of European and national institutions, the business community, academia, and civil society to discuss sustainable transport connectivity, regional integration, and economic cooperation. Key topics will include integrated inland waterway and maritime transport systems, logistics digitalisation, green transport solutions, and cross-border cooperation, with a particular focus on the partnership between Bulgaria and Romania.

The discussions will be aligned with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and the Common Maritime Agenda (CMA) for the Black Sea, aiming to foster joint initiatives that promote more efficient and sustainable waterborne transport and strengthen economic links along the Danube–Black Sea corridor.

By fostering dialogue and sharing best practice, the conference aims to contribute to a more connected, competitive and sustainable Danube–Black Sea region. It will also offer a valuable platform to exchange views on the future of EU cohesion policy and its role in strengthening macro-regional cooperation.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of the Republic of Bulgaria, with the support of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the CMA Black Sea Assistance Mechanism.
