Description

The focus of the European Maritime Day 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal, will be on blue entrepreneurship, innovation and investment to transform traditional maritime sectors and boost emerging technologies and value chains. A specific focus will be put on research and innovation for a plastic-free ocean.  Stakeholders will find the EMD a great opportunity to touch base with strategic partners, to make new contacts, get visibility for projects, activities and achievements, gain new insights into the evolving EU policy and funding landscape and provide input into European Maritime Policy formulation.  Through a dedicated matchmaking application, participants will be able to ask for matchmaking slots with other participants and post their profiles online. We are also going to offer an upgraded interactive exhibition experience with exhibitors organised by thematic clusters.

Thematic sessions will be organised by the European Commission (DG Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in cooperation with other services and EU institutions) and will focus on strategic themes such as: Blue innovation ecosystems, Future maritime research priorities, Blue investment and financial instruments, Marine renewables, Blue-bioeconomy, Blue circular economy, smart and sustainable shipping, port tech clusters, etc.

Stakeholder workshops will be organised by stakeholders  with a specific focus on aspects on innovation and investment.  Broad thematic menu available: Aquaculture; Marine bio-economy and biotechnology; Coastal and Marine Environment, Climate Action; Digitalisation & Big Data for Maritime Applications; Sea Basin Cooperation (including outermost regions); Ports and port tech clusters; Maritime Security, Surveillance; Sustainable Tourism, Coastal Communities; Maritime Spatial Planning ; Ocean and Off-shore Energy; Ocean Literacy, Maritime Skills & People; Marine Research.

EMD 2019 will also be celebrated across Europe, through ‘EMD in my Country’ events and activities, big and small, that in 2019 will focus, in particular, on mobilising citizens and young people around the theme of responsible and sustainable use of the oceans. A dedicated EMD portal will let you find which events are happening around Europe and in your neighborhood.

European Maritime Days 2019 will be held in Lisbon, Portugal on May 16-17, 2019.
