The European Maritime Day 2025 (EMD 2025) will be hosted in Cork, Ireland, from May 21-23, 2025. This in-person (live streamed) annual event highlights Europe's maritime sectors and the vital role of the seas in our lives, fostering discussions on the blue economy and marine sustainability. It features thematic sessions, stakeholder workshops, exhibitions, and networking opportunities for professionals, NGOs, academia, and citizens. The EMD also includes the Blue Forum's Fisheries and Ocean Dialogue. Organised by the European Commission, Cork City Council, and Ireland’s Department of Environment, it promises an inspiring platform for maritime collaboration.
A key highlight of the conference is the thematic workshops, which are led and managed by maritime stakeholders from various sectors, including businesses, academia, government, and NGOs. The workshop organisers are responsible for planning, coordinating, and running their sessions, each lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The applications for workshops have been launched, and will remain open until 30 December, 2024. The workshops need to be addressing one of the following themes:
Coastal communities (challenges and opportunities)
Maritime security and surveillance.
Blue energy (marine renewable energy, alternative fuels, energy transition, decarbonisation, desalination, port adaptation etc.)
Enablers (marine research, innovation, technology, observation, blue skills, MSP, digitalisation, investment etc.)
Maritime cooperation (regional, sea-basins, Civil Society, stakeholder relations etc.)
Food security (blue biotechnology, aquaculture, fisheries, algae, biodiversity etc.)
In early 2025, up to 20 workshops will be selected to take place during the EMD, and the final information on the workshops will be announced at the end of March 2025.
