The Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) for EU fisheries and aquaculture is an open and collaborative platform designed to mobilise resources and develop activities and solutions to boost the energy transition. Launched by the European Commission in 2023, the ETP invites stakeholders to join forces in addressing technical, financial, and regulatory challenges to achieve climate neutrality in the sector.

To support this mission, the ETP has successfully established a Support Group consisting of ten working groups, each led by a coordinator. These working groups focus on different segments across the EU fisheries and aquaculture sector to ensure a comprehensive approach to shaping the transition. The segments include distant water fisheries, large-scale fisheries, small-scale coastal fisheries, inland aquaculture, offshore aquaculture, ports, fishing shipbuilding, processing industry, research & academia, and NGOs.

The primary roles of the ETP Support Group are to:

  • Encourage stakeholder engagement.

  • Initiate dialogue within the sector about the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition.

  • Facilitate collaboration and the exchange of best practices.

  • Contribute to a roadmap with concrete and feasible actions to accelerate the transition in the sector.

  • Discuss and develop common strategic approaches for advancing the energy transition in the sector.

The ETP Support Group will play a crucial role in assisting the European Commission’s Energy Transition roadmap, an actionable plan to be delivered by the end of 2025. This roadmap will include measurable milestones aimed at supporting the transition to a sustainable future.
