The development of a maritime spatial plan (MSP) is a requirement under EU as well as national legislation. MSP aims to reduce or avoid conflicts between a variety of economic and noneconomic functions, but it is also a tool to identify and give the suitable room to new and changing spatial uses. But how can Member states and organisations prepare and cooperate to deliver efficient Marine Spatial Planning leading to success? Which tools and examples are available? A new study "Maritime Spatial Planning for Blue Growth" provides guidelines and examines different practices, approaches and lessons learnt that help the Member States develop sustainable growth for their maritime economies. Against this background, this report aims to provide information on how MSP can help Member States deliver sustainable growth for their maritime economies.
