Good practices for Sustainable Cruise Tourism

Good practices for Sustainable Cruise Tourism

This study, published by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (European Commission) in 2023,examined cruise tourism sustainability amid the backdrop of the European Green Deal and a new approach to a sustainable blue economy. It assessed the current economic, social, and environmental aspects and explored potential solutions. While there's no one-size-fits-all solution and some uncertainties exist regarding costs and regulations, adopting clear environmental goals, energy efficiency, circular economy principles, fuel flexibility, and industry collaboration are recommended. Good practices from various cruise players, including Onshore Power Supply, eco-friendly terminals, and food waste reduction, provide valuable lessons for the industry's sustainable development.
