LAUNCH OF THE REPORT: IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON GEORGIA’S COASTAL ZONE: VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT AND ADAPTATION OPTIONS AND CONSULTATIONS ON THE DESIGN OF BLUEING THE BLACK SEA PROGRAMME - A REGIONAL INITIATIVE TO TACKLE MARINE POLLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMON MARITIME AGENDA FOR THE BLACK SEA.

The Permanent International Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC PERMIS), in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the World Bank and the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution, are organizing a stakeholder webinar to launch the recently published report on “Impacts of Climate Change on Georgia’s Coastal Zone: Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Options” and to initiate consultations in Georgia on the design of the “Blueing the Black Sea Programme: a regional initiative to tackle marine pollution in the Black Sea”.

The webinar will introduce the report prepared by the World Bank in collaboration with the Government of Georgia which explains how supporting blue economy can accelerate the implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures required to reduce climate risks and contribute to the region’s socioeconomic development, tourism and environmental conservation.

The webinar will also offer a platform to consult the stakeholder community on pressing issues and priorities in the areas of Black Sea pollution-prevention, -reduction and -control, as well as  on the opportunities that emerge in the process. The outcome of the webinar will define the architecture and modalities of the envisaged “Blueing of the Black Sea” (BBSEA) regional project, funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The BBSEA GEF project under preparation aims to tackle marine pollution and catalyze blue economy investments in the Black Sea region. The acquired information will also feed into a national and regional pollution-diagnostic that will form the baseline for further actions.

This virtual public event will also be transmitted on Facebook. The working languages of the event will be English and Georgian.
